What is water polishing and how does it work?

Water Polishing, also known as vapor honing or vapor blasting, is the process of cleaning and/or polishing a part by exposing its surface to a slurry of water and cleaning media.

This slurry is forced against the surface of the part using a high volume of compressed air.

Various levels of shine can be achieved by changing air pressure and cleaning media.

Water Polish is an enviromentally responsible way to clean and restore the finish of any part.

  • NO harsh chemicals are used, only water.
  • NO synthetic media, all media comes from naturally derived sources.
  • NO chemical disposal means no contamination of ground water

Detail cleaning and Polishing

  • Low air pressure combined with a very fine cleaning medium produce incredibly clean parts.
  • This process will not remove material or smooth out rough edges.
  • All details on the original part are retained.
  • This is best used on restoration work where authenticity and originality is key.
  • Great for Electrical parts such as fuse boxes
  • This process takes time, but the final results are stunning.
  • Also good as a final step towards a mirror polish finish.

Coarse Cleaning

  • This process uses a coarse media and higher air pressures to rapidly clean any surface.
  • Best for parts that will be finish painted or some other type of final finish.
  • Fine details can be softened due to the agressive nature of this type of blasting
  • Good for coarse cast parts where surface finish is not as important
  • This level of cleaning can remove metal plating and will require parts to be replated or painted as necessary
